Since its founding, Studio Lucida has been engaged in photography and video production for clients both in Japan and abroad.

The name “Studio Lucida” originates from the Camera Lucida, a 19th-century optical device considered a precursor to the modern camera.
Composed only of a prism, mirror, and lens, it allowed artists to trace the world in front of them by guiding light onto a drawing surface.
Derived from Latin meaning “a room made of light,” this tool inspires our guiding metaphor:
Studio Lucida aims to be an apparatus that reveals both the visible and the invisible through light.

We see ourselves as a laboratory where artistic production and critical research move in tandem,
asking how our humanity and sensibilities are shaped, expanded, and transformed
within the complex structures of society, technology, culture, and economics.

By focusing on what lies between light and shadow,
we seek to access the hidden architectures of perception and the roots of sensibility.
This inquiry is the founding philosophy of Studio Lucida.
